The Economic Climate Indicator (ICE) of Mozambican companies in February departed from the upward trajectory it had been registering since September 2018, the Mozambican National Statistics Institute (INE) has announced.
The index fell to 98.5 from 99.7 in January.
The INE says that “entrepreneurs’ lack of confidence” is based on “expectations regarding employment and demand”, the negative trend being the result of a decline in confidence in all branches of business “with a greater emphasis on housing, catering and the like”.
The Confidence and Economic Climate indicators are a monthly publication on the economic situation in Mozambique, compiled on the basis of a business survey of non-financial sector companies conducted every month by the INE.
“The study expresses the opinion of economic agents about the evolution and perspective of their activity, particularly on employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and activity limitations,” the body explains.
