Dozens of passengers who landed at Maputo International Airport over the weekend and on Monday were being prevented from leaving, Miramar reports.
The measure, according to Miramar sources, falls within the scope of the restrictions announced on Friday by the President of the Republic in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
This location in the Mavalane neighbourhood is where hundreds of people of different nationalities and social strata enter and leave Maputo International Airport. But, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the usual bustle of arrivals and departures has all but vanished.
With the announcement of one positive case in the country, preventive measures have been redoubled, with hundreds of passengers who disembarked over the weekend and today (Monday) being prevented from leaving the facility.
They include passengers from Asia and Europe, as well as the despairing relatives and friends waiting outside the room where they are being held.
Security measures prevented interviews with the few people arriving in the country who had succeeded in leaving the airport.
Taxi drivers working at the airport are complaining about the lack of passengers.
On Monday the last TAP flight to Portugal and back in a while took place, LAM made two flights from Johannesburg to Maputo and Maputo to Johannesburg.
Our source assured us that all passengers who arrive at the airport pass through the obligatory screening and are mandated to observe home quarantine thereafter.
