The Assembly of the Republic will reduce the number of guests invited to the opening of the 1st Ordinary Session of the legislative body in Maputo next Wednesday to 15.
The decision is in line with measures announced last Saturday by President Nyusi to prevent the spread of the new Covid-19 coronavirus. These include a maximum 300 limit on the number of people in any meeting or encounter and guaranteeing the hygiene and ventilation of the spaces.
According to the President of Parliament’s spokesperson, Oriel Chemane, priority will be given to holders of state sovereign positions, representatives of the parties with seats in the assembly, the dean of the diplomatic corps and the five members of the government accompanying the prime minister.
TVM only
With regard to the press, only the Mozambique Television (TVM) team will be allowed into the plenary session room, and will be in charge of distributing images to other media. Other journalists will operate from the cabins provided.
“This was the conclusion reached by the working group in charge of drafting the proposal for the measures to be adopted by parliament,” Chemane said, stressing that the proposal would be submitted for consideration by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Esperança Bias.
Parliament is composed of 250 deputies and, under normal conditions, sessions involve more than 300 people, with the protocol body, advisers, members of the government, journalists, security and guests.
The first ordinary session of the Assembly of the Republic will focus, among other things, on the government’s Five-Year Plan (PQG), the Economic and Social Plan (PES) and the State Budget (OE) for the year.
