Mozambique has reached the end of the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, declared the National Institute of Health (INS) on Thursday.
“We have observed that, since about four weeks ago, we have had low rates of positivity, of lethality and of bed occupation – which are very similar to what we were observing before the start of the fourth wave. This means that the indicators are showing that we have reached the end of the fourth wave”, said Ivalda Macicame, the INS national director of surveys, cited by the independent television station, STV.
The positivity rate, which had once reached 43 per cent, has now fallen to around one per cent. “This means the transmission of Covid-19 is currently low”, said Macicame.
The health authorities on Thursday announced a further 20 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and only five recoveries.
According to a Thursday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 1,273,773 people have been tested in Mozambique for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,148 of them in the previous 24 hours.
