Last week, Muidumbe and Macomia districts were again the scene of attacks by the group that has terrorized northern parts of the province for almost two years now.
The first attack is reported to have taken place on Sunday, July 28, in the Demaio region of Muidumbe district, where two citizens were killed by beheading, and crops burnt.
According to sources, the victims were ambushed by the insurgents as they returned from their fields, in the second attack suffered by peasant farmers in the region.
The second attack took place on Thursday, August 1, nine kilometres from Macomia headquarters village. Houses were burned, but without injury or casualties, the residents, according to ‘A Carta’, having made a timely escape.
Last Wednesday, July 31, the Judicial Court of Cabo Delgado Province sentenced nine defendants to prison for being members of the group terrorising Mozambique’s northernmost province. Those convicted include Mozambican, Tanzanian and Burundian citizens.Source: Carta de Moçambique
