Mozambique: Four alleged criminals killed by the police in Maputo - Watch
The barge crossing from Guara-Guara to Bandua in Búzi district, Sofala province, has been suspended for about four months now, seriously limiting the movement of people and goods.
Crossing between Guara-Guara and Bandua is now being undertaken by canoe, endangering the lives of hundreds of people. Residents claim that the situation is adversely affecting their lives and are calling for the barge crossing to be restored.
The Búzi district government, together with partners, say a feasibility study on the acquisition of new material is underway.
“We need to install a 400-metre steel cable and are looking at how we can support that,” Cornelder’s António Libombo said,
“Steps were taken in the hope that Cornelder will help us get the barge working again,” Búzi administrator Maria Bernadete confirmed.
