The Maputo City Judicial Court this morning sentenced Zófimo Muiuane to 24 years in prison and a fine of 50 million meticais.
The defendant was accused of murdering his wife Valentina Guebuza, daughter of the former Mozambican president Armando Emílio Guebuza, forgery of documents, possession of prohibited weapons and psychological violence.
The trial revealed further aggravating circumstances, including premeditation, physical superiority over the victim and possessing a weapon.
In the absence of mitigating circumstances, the accused is considered to be a primary offender for failing to cooperate in uncovering the material truth and for having acted in a conscious manner.
The judge recounted all the statements made in court by the witnesses and experts.
