Twelve men are on the run after a shooting on the N12 near Daveyton this morning (September 20).
The incident happened on the N12 between the Etwatwa and Daveyton off-ramps, where one woman was killed and four others critically injured.
Two of the victims were airlifted and two transported to hospital by ambulance.
According to Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Tryna Maritz it is alleged that a taxi coming from Mozambique with 15 passengers was travelling on the N12, when they were pulled over by a grey BMW and a Hilux double cab bakkie.
“In the BMW there were four armed men and eight armed men in the Hilux double cab,”said Maritz.
“The suspects then started shooting at the taxi, while instructing passengers to give them their valuables.”
Suspects fled the scene with cellphones, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money.
Maritz said police suspect the motive was robbery, saying it is alleged that the passengers come from Mozambique to buy stock in Johannesburg.
A case of murder, attempted murder and robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
The N12 Highway between eTwatwa and Daveyton off ramp remained closed this afternoon following the shooting.
Forensic pathologists were combing the scene for clues from the minibus taxi which is riddled with bullets holes.
