The National Electoral Commission (CNE) has rejected the candidacy of Samora Machel Júnior for the October 10 municipal elections, with nine votes from Frelimo and MDM.
Renamo and Civil Society voted in favour of ‘Samito’ remaining in the race, but only got seven votes.
The president of the CNE abstained from voting.
Samora Machel Júnior is the head of list for the Mozambican Youth Development Association, AJUDEM.
According to the CNE spokesman, Paulo Cuinica, the decision was made due to insufficient substitutes in the AJUDEM list.
