The Mozambican Tang Soo Do team won the 19th edition of the world championship of the sport, held in North Carolina, United States of America. And adding one good thing to another, on the same occasion master Cláudio Temporário was promoted to the level of 5th Dan.
The competition was attended by more than 100 athletes from various countries. The Mozambican team comprised 15 athletes.
In total the Mozambique national team won 38 medals: 15 gold, 14 silver and nine bronze.
Among the Mozambican athletes, the highlight goes to Edson Noronha, crowned World champion in the senior black belt division.
At the same event, the president of the Mozambican Tang Soo Do Association, Cláudio Temporário, was promoted to Senior Master Fifth Dan, while instructor Michael Lee, from Escola Mumemo Dojang de Maracuene, was recognized as instructor of the year by the World Tang Soo Do Association .
Some of the athletes, just a few days prior to their departure to the United States of America, still did not have the financial resources to cover their travel and stay, valued at just over 200,000 meticais per athlete. Help came from the contribution of a mother, who made 50,000 meticais available for the purchase of training suits, and some people of good will, as the sport does not receive support from the state as it is not an Olympic modality.
Master Cláudio Temporário led the delegation, combining the roles of coach and leader. Temporário obtained his First Dan black belt in 2004, the Second Dan in 2006 and the Third in 2009, the first in Mozambique and the third in the Seychelles.
He started Fourth Dan in 2015 in the USA, finishing in 2017 and being promoted to Master during the 2018 world championships.
In 2022 he started the fifth Dan, having already passed the physical test, and submitted his thesis to make the promotion official.
As an athlete he won several medals in national, African and world championships, most notably two national champion titles and three African champion titles (2005/2008/2009).
He held several positions at AMTSD level, director, president of the General Assembly and vice-president of the board.
He started as an assistant instructor in 2003 and obtained his instructor certificate in 2004.
