Sunday, December 5th, was a historic day for Angolan singer, Yuri da Cunha – the day he fulfilled his dream of meeting Mozambican writer, Paulina Chiziane.
The news was advanced by the singer through his official Instagram account, where he could not hide his happiness at having met the author of “Balada de Amor ao Vento” [“Love Ballad in the Wind”].
“So much happiness that it doesn’t fit in my chest. Today, December 5th, is going to be a historic day for me. It was today in the middle of a Sunday that I had the honour and privilege of being by the side of this African Queen,” Yuri da Cunha wrote. “Paulina Chiziane, Mother Africa, thank you for never giving up the fight in our favour. Thank you mother, for your generous hug, which makes me happy beyond measure”.
In conclusion, the Angolan singer voiced his position regarding the devaluation of African cultures, habits and customs, and appealed to Africans to value what matters.
“Mozambique, Angola, Africa, let’s wake up to what has value. I understand why we value that which has no value. What I don’t understand is our devaluation of what has value,” the singer wrote.
In October of this year, Paulina Chiziane won the Camões 2021 Award.
