– An as yet unidentified disease has killed, in less than 15 days, at least ten children, who had a high fever, diarrhoea and vomiting, in the municipality of Cacuaco, in Luanda province, residents of the area reported.
The situation was reported by the coordinators of two neighbourhoods affected by the illness, which the authorities suspect is yellow fever.
“We have asked some health technicians from the municipality of Cacuaco, the only answer they are giving us is that it must be yellow fever and these last few days the medical posts are full, and children are dying every day”, said Manuel Cavaia, coordinator of Bairro dos Pescadores, speaking to Angolan public radio.
Manuel Cavaia added that the neighbourhood is registering many deaths due to this disease.
The coordinator of Bairro Emanuel, João Pascoal, said that 80% of the neighbouring area of Bairro dos Pescadores was suffering from the disease.
“80% [of the residents] of Emanuel neighbourhood are experiencing this disease, which is creating a concern for the coordination of this neighbourhood and we want to transmit this so that the entities review the public health of our municipality so that they can act,” João Pascoal said, also speaking to the Angolan state broadcaster.
