U.S. contractor McDermott announced Wednesday the award of a contract by Texan oil and gas firm Anadarko Petroleum for the Mozambique Liquified Natural Gas Development, Kallanish Energy learns.
The onshore engineering, procurement and construction (Epc) contract was awarded to CCS JV, a joint venture between McDermott and fellow contractors including Italy’s Saipem and Japan’s Chiyoda.
McDermott’s and Saipem’s shares of the contract are, respectively, $2 billion and $6 billion. Chiyoda didn’t disclose its financial details.
The JV will provide all components of the onshore LNG development, including two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 12.88 million tons per annum (Mtpa), and the associated infrastructure.
Work will begin after Anadarko makes a final investment decision (Fid) on the project, expected later this month.
“LNG is helping to shape an entirely new era of energy solutions, and McDermott is playing a significant role in this global shift,” said Tareq Kawash, McDermott’s snior vice president for Europe, Africa, Russia and Caspian, in a release.
The project envisages the production of LNG from the offshore Area 1 in the deepwater Rovuma Basin, estimated to hold 75 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of recoverable natural gas.
Anadarko’s partners are Mozambique state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, Japan’s Mitsui, Thai company PTT, and Indian firms ONGC Videsh, Bharat PetroResources and Oil India.
