The African Development Bank (AfDB) is to spend US$15.5 million supporting Lúrio University programmes in agricultural training and engineering.
The representative of the AfDB in Mozambique, Pietro Toigo, quoted today by newspaper Noticias, said that the financing would be used to construct and equip workshops, laboratories and libraries at the state-owned university in the northern province of Nampula.
“Extractive resources in northern Mozambique will accelerate the country’s economic growth, but to ensure that growth is inclusive, young people must be given the tools to compete successfully,” Toigo said at the partnership launch.
With the AfDB’s help, Lúrio University will affirm itself as a pillar of excellence in teaching and research in the north of the country.
The university rector, Francisco Noa, said that the institution was committed to the education and training of a new generation of qualified people and to meeting the challenges posed by the country’s development.
