At least two litres of bottled water is the price of admission to the Guava Complete Primary School – without that, students are prohibited from accessing the school.
This disgusts the students, who are forced to take bottles of water from home to use in the toilets – to which, in turn, they do not always have access.
They claim that it is mandatory to bring water to school, and that, furthermore, they have to contribute 50 meticais.
They are forced to carry the bottles of water for kilometres, and, even then, the toilets are always closed.
The students say some of them have still been denied access, despite contributing.
The school principal however claims that information about the necessary contribution was shared with the pupils’ guardians, who agreed to the plan.
The school administration says it will take about 15 days to solve the water problem.
