The number of people arrested for desecration of graves, exhumation of skulls and persecution of bald men in the district of Milange, Zambézia province, has risen to 15 since the outbreak of the phenomenon.
The latest batch of six detainees were reported to the police when they went to traditional healers in search of “a bath to cleanse bad luck” following the desecration of graves.
Milange administrator Mario Macassa said that the local government had involved traditional healers in trying to stop the desecration of graves and persecution of bald people based on superstition and the beliefs that bald people can be a stimulus to wealth.
According to Macassa, no new attacks or desecration of graves have been registered since the involvement of traditional doctors.
