U.S. Embassy in Mozambique recruits business delegations for Trade Shows in the United States
Inauguration of the Exhibition – When I look at myself, I do not know myself
In the exhibition "When I look at myself, I do not recognize myself" artists Luís Santos and Sara Carneiro focus on how an individual looks at himself or herself - in their image and in their essence.
Mozambican Luis Santos explores the strangeness of the look. His sculptures provide games of visualization of the objects that transport the spectator to a reflection on the experience of observation. He understands the gaze and sees it as distinct ideas, raising distrust about what it is to see, what it is to be seen and what it means to see oneself.
The Portuguese Sara Carneiro is influenced by her arrival in Mozambique. In her experiences she unfolds the complex relationships between her country of origin and the host country. When you look at yourself again, you question your identity. What is it like to see your reflection in the blackness of the past? How is it recognized in the eyes of others? At the Fundação Fernando Leite Couto, the two artists talk in a discourse about materiality and seek to promote a reflection on the way one sees the other, as we see ourselves, from a collective consciousness.
