Chenjerai live at 16Neto
Chenjerai is a Mozambican musician born in Manica province, central Mozambique, during a time when the country was troubled by civil war, which forced his parents to move to neighbouring country Zimbabwe. His passion for music began at an early age, under the influence of his father and older brother who played mbira.
At the age of seven, he joined a percussion band at primary school and played cymbals for two years. Ten years later, he wrote and composed his first song titled ”Ndiwe WEGA“. Chenjerai grew up listening to Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Lira and ZamaJobe, who have, either directly or indirectly, inspired his own compositions.
