Mozambique: Government wants gradual, calibrated capital account liberalisation
Mr. ARI AISEN, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Mozambique, issued today the following Press Statement regarding the press release issued on January 29, 2018 by the Attorney General of the Republic of Mozambique on the loans contracted by EMATUM, Proindicus and MAM companies:
“The IMF notes the decision taken on January 26, 2018 by the Attorney General of the Republic of Mozambique to file a complaint to the Audit Court on the financial accountability of public managers and the managers of the state-owned companies involved in the signing and management of the financing, supply and services delivery contracts regarding the EMATUM, Proindicus and MAM companies.
“The IMF sees this decision as an encouraging step toward ensuring accountability.
“However, more generally, the IMF reiterates the need to fill the information gaps in the audit report of the EMATUM, Proindicus and MAM companies.”
