The Chinese government welcomes all the efforts to ensure that Mozambicans live in a stable and peaceful country, a thing which is fundamental to success in the fight against poverty, Chinese ambassador in Maputo, Su Jian, said moments after meeting Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic Verónica Macamo on Wednesday.
“The Chinese government welcomes all efforts made to achieve lasting peace and stabilization of Mozambique. Our priority is to help Mozambique get rid of poverty, with peace and stability essential to that,” said Su.
The pair also discussed preparations for Macamo’s working visit to China later this month.
“We are working to make the visit a great success in regard not only to parliamentary relations but also social, political and economic ties. We also talked about some bilateral cooperation projects. We thank the Mozambican parliament for its great support in improving cooperation between the two countries and peoples, at various levels, and to making it much more productive,” said Su Jian.
Speaker Macamo said she hoped the visit would be a success, considering a past and present characterized by a healthy collaboration between the parliaments and governments of both countries and peoples. “We are going to discuss ways to augment this relationship, within the scope of good practices, to take full advantage of the potentialities of the two countries,” he said.
Macamo said the question of the construction of the parliamentary building would also be analyzed during the visit, this being an infrastructure so lacking for the full implementation of the activities of the Mozambican parliament.
“Each passing day we get less work space. As an example, the members of the Permanent Commission of the Assembly of the Republic (CPAR) do not have offices, and have to take documents home and back – a very sensitive situation,” she said.
As for economics, Macamo said that her delegation to China would include businesspeople because of the enormous experience that China has in production, mainly in agriculture and industry.
Macamo said that China managed to feed a population of more than one billion people. “It is not easy to feed a population of more than one billion people, but China can do that. And we are in a distressing situation with about 25 million inhabitants. We should explore China’s skills to give more impetus to our own production.”
“We will work on parliamentary cooperation, never forgetting that our parliament is in Mozambique and Mozambicans have needs whose solution is to raise their quality of life,” she said.
