The digital experience aims to empower and transform the lives of Mozambican women university graduates or finalists

On the 21st of June of 2021, GirlMOVE Academy (GMA) launched the Rise&Shine campaign, a pioneering digital initiative aimed at empowering and transforming the lives of young university women in Mozambique. The Rise&Shine online digital platform is GMA’s new programme and wants to reach as many Mozambican women and young women university graduates or finalists between the ages of 20 and 28 who want to be changemakers in their communities as possible.

The goal of GirlMOVE Academy, with this first edition of Rise&Shine, is to create an impact on 3000 or more young Mozambican women. For this, GMA has the support of notable Mozambican women who are paradigms of female leadership, such as Neyma Nacimo and Sheila Ibrahimo. Both will be part of this digital experience, motivating all their followers to be future agents of change in their communities.2

The initiative, which aims to leverage the talent of young Mozambican women, comprises three phases, namely Rise, Shine and Move. The GirlMOVE Academy believes in systemic change through sisterhood circles that promote new role models for women and their multiplier effect, expanding and impacting on communities.

According to Alexandra Machado, founder and CEO of GirlMOVE Academy, “We receive over 1700 applications for our Change project every year. Of these 1700 women and girls we only recruit 30 to enter an immersive experience at our academy in Nampula. The time has come for us to create even more opportunities for all eligible girls and women to be able to develop and also feel the power of sisterhood circles.”

Covid-19 proved that it is possible to create online experiences in Mozambique, innovations on which the adaptation and growth of the organisations also depend.
