Manica is a province of Mozambique. It has an area of 61,661 km² and a population of approximately 1.2 million (2002). Chimoio is the capital of the province.
Chimoio is the capital of the Mozambican province of Manica. It is the fifth-largest city in Mozambique with a population of 177,608 (1997 census). Located about 95 km from the Zimbabwean border, it is sometimes described as feeling more Zimbabwean than Mozambican.
Chimoio's colonial name was Vila Pery. The town lies on the railway line from Beira to Harare, near the Cabeça do Velho rock. Chimoio is also the hometown to the textile factory of "Textafrica", currently closed.
