Chimoio, capital of Manica province, hosts Thursday a workshop that, among other topics, will focus on conservation agriculture in Mozambique.
A press release from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says the event aims to collect data and raise awareness of the importance of conservation agriculture for food security, to promote greater practice of this type of agriculture, taking into account its importance in improving soil fertility, conserving water and reducing the adverse effects of climate change.
It also aims to promote greater sharing of knowledge and experience in the country and the region, to help streamline partners’ efforts to expand, strengthen efforts to create a national conservation agriculture platform, and consolidate other ongoing initiatives in the region.
The event is organized by FAO in partnership with the Austrian Development Cooperation, Mozambican Agricultural Research Institute, National Conservation Agriculture Platform and the Norwegian Embassy.
The event brings together players and stakeholders including producer associations, agricultural research institutions, representatives of the public and private sectors involved in promoting conservation agriculture, cooperation partners and the United Nations agency.
