A company allegedly based in Maputo has swindled the government of the district of Morrumbala in Zambézia out of more than one million meticais intended for the purchase of two vehicles.
The company won the tender to supply two vehicles to Morrumbala, but despite receiving the full amount in 2015, it has not yet honoured its commitment. The vehicles were to be assigned to the administrative posts of Megaza and Chire, in Morrumbala.
Morrumbala District Administrator Pedro Sapange confirmed that he had maintained contact with the management of the company, who had promised it would deliver the vehicles, but they had never materialised.
This happened while Pedro Sapange was administrator of the district of Namacurra. When he took up the same duties at Morrumbala, he started to suspect a swindle. In an attempt to recover state resources, Morrumbala district submitted two complaints to the public prosecutor.
The same company has also cheated the Chinde administration, having received monies to supply two tractors, a levelling pad and a cylinder, which also never materialised.
