The Mozambican tax authority collected about 90 billion meticais (more than EUR 1.2 billion) in the first half of this year, an increase of 12 percent over the same period in 2016.
In its six-monthly balance press conference, tax authority spokesman Anibal Balango said that revenue collected by the institution from January to June of the this year corresponded to 45.71 percent of the anticipated revenue for the whole year.
The Mozambican tax authority expected to raise a total of 186.3 billion meticais (EUR 2.4 billion) in the current year, Balango said, and in the first half of this year imposed fines of 380 million meticals (EUR 5.2 million) for fraud and tax evasion.
