Mozambique: Vehicles banned from using bridge over Zambezi in Tete city
Notícias
The Mozambican Ports and Railways Company (CFM) has announced that the Limpopo rail line will be closed to train traffic for seven days from tomorrow to Sunday (3 to 9 October) for maintenance.
The CFM notes that two passenger trains on the Maputo-Marracuene section will still run, one departing from Marracuene at 4:55 a.m. and arriving in Maputo at 6:42 a.m., and the other leaving Maputo at 5:45 p.m. and arriving in Marracuene at 7:37 p.m.
While not providing any details on the nature and cost of the works planned for the Limpopo line, CFM says the suspension of traffic covers all Chicualacuala and Chókwè passenger trains.
The company acknowledges that the measure will cause inconvenience to the company, its customers, partners and the general public. The Limpopo line is strategic for the flow of cargo, especially to and from Zimbabwe, and to the economy and social connections of several villages and cities in southern Mozambique.
Ressano Garcia and Goba lines
CFM South has been busy improving the transport capacity and reliability of rail traffic recently. In June, the company announced the temporary suspension of circulation on the the Ressano Garcia and Goba lines, also for maintenance work.
The work, previously scheduled, was aimed at reducing the number of derailments on the line, which gives users from South Africa, Swaziland and other countries in the region access to the Port of Maputo.
The CFM defines the recovery of a considerable part of cargo currently transported by road as a priority for the Ressano Garcia and Goba lines. South Africa exports coal and ferro-chrome via Maputo Port, with a large percentage transported by truck along the EN4. A large part of Swaziland’s sugar exports also travel by road, instead of using the Goba rail line.
