Last week, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it would not negotiate any further budget support programme with the Mozambican government until the issue of the ‘hidden debts’ was fully clarified.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, says that the government has complied with the IMF guidelines for clarifying debts, and that it was now up to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to do what the IMF demands.
The government has already passed the state budget for next year, prepared within the limitations imposed by the partners’ cuts, to the Assembly of the Republic.
Education and health continue to be a priority for the coming year, and will not be cut despite the crisis. These sectors also benefit from the support of the partner financing.
