Provincial government blames fundamentalists for Mocímboa da Praia attacks
A taxi driver was killed in Maputo province on Wednesday morning. According to Maputo city police spokesman Paulo Nazaré, the victim was approached by a group of criminals posing as clients who rented the cab in the Boane district to go to Goba, supposedly to collect a parcel.
But when they got there, they murdered the driver. “The victim was stabbed with a knife, and then they threw a large stone at his heart area to make sure he was dead,” the spokesman said. The police account is confirmed by the leader of the gang.
Three of the five supposed gang members are currently being held in the First Precinct Police Station in Maputo. Two of the suspects deny any involvement in the case.
Authorities say the owner of the taxi sounded the alert.
The operation also recovered two Isuzu brand vans which were stolen by the gang. They are available for inspection at the First Precinct Police Station in Maputo.Source: O País
