Credit Suisse, Mozambique secure out-of-court 'tuna bond' settlement
Six people, three children among them, were killed in the Búzi district of Sofala province in central Mozambique, when the vessel they were travelling in sank, Radio Moçambique reports.
Sources at the Sofala Maritime Administration told RM that five people were rescued after overloading caused the boat to capsize.
“We can confirm the occurrence, which may have been caused by overloading with salt, fish, dry rice and coconut,” the head of the Nova Sofala administrative post said.
According to RM, the two crew members fled after the sinking.
The daily Noticias notes that this is the second sinking to have occurred in the area this year, after seven people died when a boat capsized in May. Six years ago, 11 people lost their lives in the Buzi district when a boat was wrecked during bad weather.
