Mozambique: SADC pull-out from Cabo Delgado to force 'repositioning' - analysts
Just twenty-four hours into the school year and six school transport vehicles have been seized by Maputo’s municipal police for a variety of infractions. Two drivers were also detained for illegal driving on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Among the reasons, according to O País, are overcrowding, lack of appropriate licenses, noise pollution and bad driving.
Four vehicles were seized Monday morning and the other two following day in separate operations on the capital’s roads. The vehicles concerned were on their way to school to deliver pupils mostly under the age of ten.
Disclosing the information yesterday, Maputo Municipal Police spokesman Joshua Lai said that the operations were aimed at ensuring compliance with municipal regulations and preventing students from coming to harm in road accidents while in the care of private student carriers.
