Semlex accuses Mozambican government of “illegal termination of contract"
Seven citizens have been arrested by police in Beira, Sofala province, on suspicion of stealing 158 bags of rice to sell in local markets.
According to police, the theft occurred at dawn last Wednesday (May 17) at the OLAM warehouses, with the connivance of two company security guards.
The gang of nine thieves, of whom two remain in the run, destroyed the warehouse door in their attack. Only 30 bags of the stolen rice were recovered.
Sofala police spokesman Daniel Macuácua said that cases of theft from companies in that part of the country are worrisome since they frequently involve workers from the companies themselves.
The defendants say they committed the crime they are charged with because they were hungry.Source: A Verdade /TVM
