CIP Mozambique Elections: Riots and 2 deaths in Nampula and Nacala
Armed men allegedly belonging to Renamo attacked and consequently displaced the head of Mepinha locality, in Morrumbala district, Zambezia province, in the early hours of Saturday.
Reports that reached Diário da Zambézia (DZ), later confirmed by the [Morrumbala] administrator himself, claim that, at around 3 a.m. today, Renamo men fired shots at the residence of the head of the [Mepinha] locality and that, in face of the circumstances, he fled, having abandoned his motorcycle which was set on fire minutes later.
This morning (Saturday, June 2), and over the telephone, Morrumbala administrator, Pedro Sapange confirmed the incident and assured that the head of Mepinha is safe and sound, adding that a force was being sent to control the situation.
Mepinha is not very far from Sabe and it was, by the way, the only alternative road to reach Morrumbala headquarters, because the usual Zero-Morrumbala path has been the stage of attacks, reports DZ.
