Weather Alert: Strong winds and thunderstorms in southern Mozambique
The reforestation programme in the provinces of Zambezia and Cabo Delgado, located in the central and northern regions of Mozambique, respectively, will cost US$47 million, the Mozambican government spokesman said on Tuesday.
Mouzinho Saide said after a cabinet meeting that the reforestation programme of those two provinces is part of the National Sustainable Development Programme and the “Floresta em Pé” (Standing Forest), the largest forestry project in Mozambique.
The Floresta em Pé project is the main programme of the National Forestry Directorate, an organisation under the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development, and is based on five key ideas: conservation and enhancement of forests, financial sustainability of forestry activities, training, transparency and access to information and mitigation of climate change.
Forest covers about 70% of the total area of Mozambique, about 40.1 million hectares, with 26.9 million hectares of timber-producing forests and 13.2 million hectares of conservation areas.Source: Macauhub
