Prices in Luanda province increased by 41.95% in 2016, or a rise of 27.68 percentage points over the amount recorded a year earlier, reported the National Statistics Institute (INE) of Angola.
INE also said that in Luanda province the consumer price index increased by 2.17% by month (December 2016/November 2016).
The categories of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+4.01%), Clothing and Footwear (+ 3.26%), Leisure, Recreation and Culture (+3.50%), among others, saw some of the highest increases.
The National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), which calculates inflation in Angola’s 18 province, rose by 2.04% in December, down from 2.29% in November, following the slowdown that began in the fourth quarter of last year.
The provinces that recorded the largest increases were Moxico, with 2.23%, Lunda Sul with 2.22%, Luanda with 2.17% and Cabinda with 2.21% and smaller increases were seen in Bie with 1.60%, Kwanza Sul with 1.86%, Zaire with 1.88% and Uige with 1.95%.
The categories of expenditure that had the greatest influence on the price increase in monthly terms were Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, with an increase of 3.65%, Clothing and Footwear with 3.02% and Miscellaneous Goods and Services with 3.0%.
