President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi has sent a message to the president of Brazil expressing his solidarity with the Brazilian people following the plane crash in Colombia, which killed 76 people, including many members of Chapecoense soccer team.
In his message, President Nyusi writes:
“It was with great consternation that I learned of the air crash in Cerro El Gordo, near La Union, Antioquia, Republic of Colombia, on November 29, 2016, with 81 people on board, including members of the Brazilian Chapecoense soccer team on their way to the South American Cup final, and which resulted in 76 deaths among the players, journalists and crew.
“In this moment of deep sorrow and dismay, on behalf of the people and Government of the Republic of Mozambique and in my personal name, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to Your Excellency, to the bereaved families and to the people and Government of the Federal Republic of Brazil,” the document reads.
Following the accident, the President of Brazil, Michel Temer decreed three days of mourning.
“At this sad hour, with tragedy falling in on dozens of Brazilian families, I express my solidarity. We are putting in place the means to help families and give all possible assistance,” he said on Twitter.
The South American Football Confederation has suspended all matches in sympathy with the bereaved.
