President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi is in the district of Namarroi today for a rally and a meeting with young people.
The population of the Namarroi district, north of Zambezia province, is likely to ask for the rehabilitation of the 80 km stretch of road linking Namarroi to Gurué, which is in an advanced state of degradation following the destruction of bridges by rains in 2015.
Local residents told Radio Mozambique said that, to reach Gurue, people were forced to travel more than a 150 kilometres through Ile district. Given their geographic location, Gurue and Mocuba districts constitute Namarroi’s main trading depots, and the region is dependent on them.
Other concerns are the lack of banking facilities, the expansion of the health network to the villages and opportunities for youth employment.
On the second day of his visit to Zambezia, the head of state will visits the Ualasse neighbourhood poultry farm at the Namarroi district headquarters, part of the PITTA integrated technology transfer program.

According to preliminary data from the 2017 census, Namarroi has over 149,000 inhabitants, and boasts strong potential for the production of peanuts, cereals, legumes and cashew nuts.
