President Nyusi wants the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security to identify the cause of low levels of employment in the country and propose solutions.
Employment in Nampula, Tete, Zambézia, Sofala provinces and Maputo city fell by more than twenty percent from 2015 to 2016. The National Directorate of Labour Market Observation points to the crisis as the reason for the fall.
During his visit to the Ministry yesterday, the head of state visited the Inspectorate-General of Labour, which is in charge of monitoring working conditions and ensuring companies comply with the law.
The illegal hiring of foreign labour is also on the president’s list of concerns, with the Inspectorate-General of Labour again in the spotlight.
Among its various responsibilities, the Labour Ministry oversees vocational training, especially for the young, and the president’s tour included a visit to the headquarters of the Alberto Cassimo Institute of Vocational Training and Labor Studies.
The institution has eighteen training centres and delegations in every province. From 2015 to 2016 it trained more than eight hundred young people, and, in the first quarter of this year, another 9,000.
