Portuguese is to join Mandarin and Swaili as one of the foreign languages offered in the Zimbabwean secondary school curriculum.
The new curriculum aims to prepare young people for life and work in a globalized environment.
The news was well received by Zimbabwean teachers, who say that the introduction of foreign languages will strengthen students’ capabilities.
Zimbabwe has three official languages – Shona, Ndebele and English. Thirteen other languages are spoken by ethnic minority groups.
