President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal will travel to Mozambique on the evening of 2 May and return to Lisbon on the morning of the 7th.
In addition to bilateral meetings, this state visit will have a heavy economic bent. with meetings between Portuguese and Mozambican businesspeople in preparation, but Portuguese entrepreneurs participating in the initiative will travel at their own expense.
The visit in early May will have a strong economic component, and includes meetings with 150 Portuguese and Mozambican businesspeople. Cooperation and development, education and culture will also be priority areas.
The Portuguese head of state will spend all five days of his first state visit to the country in the capital.
The state visit by the President of the Republic Mozambique had been was announced on March 21 by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal, Teresa Ribeiro, during a working visit to Mozambique.
Ribeiro also announced that the Prime Minister António Costa will visit Mozambique in the final quarter of this year for the third bilateral summit.
