A 26-year-old Portuguese tourist was hit and killed by a vehicle while crossing the Windhoek-Hosea Kutako International Airport road on Friday, minutes after her arrival in Namibia, from Portugal.
According to a Namibian Police Crime report issued Sunday, Natacha Ferreira Alves had just arrived in Namibia from Portugal with her father and boyfriend.
The two surviving tourists told police they spotted a tortoise crossing the road about 5 kilometres from the airport and stopped to have a look. On their return to the car, Alves was knocked down by a passing vehicle and died on the spot at about 16h30.
