To celebrate the Island of Mozambique’s 200 years of city status, the Kulunguana Association, in partnership with the Mozambican Photography Association (AMF), is staging a photographic contest called ‘Island of Mozambique, Island of the Two Cities’ (‘Ilha de Moçambique: Ilha das Duas Cidades’).
The contest aims to contribute to and disseminate knowledge about the Island of Mozambique at local and international level and is open to Mozambicans and foreigners residing in Mozambique. Works must be submitted by July 13.
The three best works will receive prizes in the amount of 100,000, 60,000 and 40,000 meticais respectively, to be presented at the exhibition opening in the AMF hall.
The Island of Mozambique has a special place in the history of Mozambique. It gained city status on January 19, 1763, and on September 17, 1818, became the first capital of the colony of Mozambique. It was classified a World Heritage site in 1991.
