Illegal acts by the Brazilian company Odebrecht are investigated currently in Mozambique, due to supposed bribes to public servants for the awarding of contracts for construction works at Nacala airport in the northern area of the country.
The Central Office for the Fight against Corruption (CGCE) notified the beginning of the investigation, after the firm admitted the illegal payment of around US$90,000 to Mozambican officials between 2011 and 2014 to win the contract for the construction of an airport terminal in Nacala.
‘We have made contact with Brazil,’ CGCE’s spokesman Eduardo Sumana told the media, although the summary silence established by the Brazilian Justice could slow down the investigation in Mozambique.

Documents published by the US Justice Department revealed that Odebrecht paid around $788 million USD in bribes to 12 countries in Latin America and Africa.
