Mozambique: FIKANI 2023 International Tourism Fair begins
Noticias / President Filipe Nyusi
“We have to stop being a country with potential and become a power,” President Nyusi told tour operators during a discussion of sector revitalisation. “We invite those involved in tourism to exchange views on what to do to make the country a tourist destination.”
According to the Mozambique Information Agency, one of the aspects considered is that Dubai has become a power in world tourism with only 14 kilometres of coast, and other countries that do not even have beaches also succeed while Mozambique, with more than two thousand kilometres of coastline, does not.
Speaking yesterday at the event, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Silva Dunduro, said that of the 141 countries evaluated by the global competitiveness index in 2015, Mozambique ranked 130. And for the president, this scenario “is not positive”.
Nyusi argued that it was necessary to ask what other countries had to be ranked so far above Mozambique. “We have to stop being a country with potential and become a power. Mozambique as a tourist destination: what is failing, what is to be done, and how to do it?” the president asked.
About 30 personalities linked to tourism participated in yesterday’s event.
