President Nyusi is making a working visit to the Ministry of Health today, as part of his campaign on state institutions, O País reports today.
According to a press release from the presidency, the visit begins at the central medicine warehouse and will also cover health units in the country’s capital.
The health sector is one of the most prominent public institutions and not infrequently, the most targeted by criticism and complaints by users. One of the loudest complaints recently has had to do with the lack of essential medicines and medical-surgical material in some health units. Some unofficial information suggests that the situation stems from the country’s financial crisis but, according to some official information, the situation stems only from poor distribution.
During the visit this Wednesday, Filipe Nyusi will interact with staff and employees in the health sector and users in health units.
The final stage of the visit concerns health sector radiography units, which are at the top of the government’s priorities.
Visits to public institutions has been central feature of Nyusi’s governance mandate. The head of state has strongly criticised public managers in sectors where he has been displeased with the quality of services, and he has made detailed recommendations where he has deemed it necessary.
