The city of Nampula spends 2.5 million meticais collecting 350 tons of garbage per month, and faces problems collecting it all.
In order to facilitate collection in neighbourhoods with narrow access roads, the City Council has acquired three-wheel motorcycles for garbage collection.
Mayor Mahamudo Amurane says their introduction will allow garbage collection in these locations to be more frequent.
According to Amurane, the 2.5 million meticais still doesn’t cover all the costs.
Some of the three-wheel motorbikes have been shown to the public but the date for them to start operations has not been disclosed.
