The body of a 10-year-old child has been found in a drainage ditch in Beira, Mozambique, a police source said today.
“It has been proven to be a homicide, and we already have strong suspicions” as to who the perpetrators were, said José Chigaro, police commander in the Munhava neighbourhood, one of Beira’s most populous.
The child had been kidnapped in the early hours of Friday during a domestic robbery, he said.
The assailants took several appliances and kidnapped the child, who was alone and sleeping in the house at the time, the victim’s aunt, Anastácia Brito, explained.
“His mother was not at home at the time. When she returned, she found the door open, and the child was no longer in his room,” she added.
The body was given a preliminary forensic examination to clarify the case, which was then handed over to the criminal investigation police, José Chigaro said.Source: Lusa
