President Robert Mugabe says that South Africa is not as free as other countries in the region.
The Zimbabwean president was reacting to criticism from African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Gwede Mantashe, who Mugabe described as foolish.
This was a marked escalation in the war of words between Mugabe and Gwede Mantashe.
Earlier this week, the ANC secretary-general accused Mugabe of destroying Zimbabwe’s economy. He said that he’d complained to ZANU-PF over Mugabe’s recent criticism of Nelson Mandela.
On Thursday, Mugabe hit back, accusing Mantashe of acting foolishly.
In comments carried by state media, Mugabe said that South Africa wasn’t as free as other countries in the region because those who imposed apartheid still controlled resources.
