Mozambique: Three Portuguese-language writers up for Dublin literary prize

The Mozambican writer Mia Couto is shortlisted for the 2016 São Paulo Literature Award promoted by the state government of São Paulo in Brazil.
The author of ‘Sleepwalking Land’ is the only foreigner among the 19 Brazilian authors in the running for the 400 thousand reais prize, which will be distributed among the winners of the Novel of the Year, first-time author under 40 years old and first-time author over 40 categories.
Mia’s latest book, ‘Mulheres de Cinza’ (Women of Ash), is entered for Novel of the Year. The 20 books competing in the finals were selected out of 175 books submitted, which must have been published in 2015 with the original edition in Portuguese.
This is the ninth edition of the Prize for São Paulo Literature Award, aimed at encouraging literary output of quality and value, supporting new authors and independent publishers and promoting dialogue between the finalists and the public.
