Mozambique wins bronze at COSAFA Women's Cup
The final individual and teams standings of the African Optimist Sailing championship, which ended on Thursday (October 13) in Luanda Island (Angola), is as it follows:
Women’s category:
1 – Denise Parruque (Mozambique)
2 – Chiara Fruet (South Africa)
3 – Aline Lourenço (Angola)
4 – Rym Dia (Algeria)
5 – Racha Touabi (Algeria)
Men’s category:
1 – Osvaldo da Gama (Angola)
2 – Matt Ashwell (South Africa)
3 – Lourenço Simão (Angola)
4 – João Luacuti (Angola)
5 – Decaprio Fernandes (Angola)
Team standings:
1 – Angola: João Luacuti, Osvaldo da Gama, Lourenço Simão, Decaprio Fernandes and Aline Lourenço
2º – Algeria: Anis Harouz, Mohamed Lazereg, Zakari Mokhtari and Oussama Bendajaoui
3º – Mozambique: Jeremias Mazoio, Titos Cossa, Abel Manhique, Eric Macamo and Denise Parruque.
Sports minister praises Angolan organizational capacity
The minister of Youth and Sports, Albino da Conceição José, urged the international community to believe in the organizational capacity of Angolans, in face of the successful hosting of the African Optimist sailing championship, which took place on 8-13 October in Luanda.
Addressing on Thursday the competition’s closing ceremony, held for the first time in Angola, the minister, who was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Sports, Ana Paula Sacramento, said that despite the financial difficulties hitting the country, it has been shown that the Angolans can overcome any obstacle.
He praised the participation of the business sector that created conditions for all participants, mainly the foreigners, leave for their country satisfied with Angola.
In the general standings of the competition, Angola was crowned winner of the event.
About 47 sailors representation of Angola, Algeria, South Africa, Seychelles, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Tanzania participated in the competition.
2017 edition will be hosted by Alexandria in Egypt.
