Abel Xavier remains at the helm of Mozambique's national football team
Mozambique men’s basketball team has risen eight places in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) ranking, rising from 84th to 76th place.
The team’s rise – up 52.6 points – stems from its the good performance in the first group D China 2019 World Cup qualifying round.
The Mozambican team currently leads the group, alongside Senegal with 5 points, and is in a good position to qualify for the second round.
Mozambique beat the Ivory Coast 66-53 in the opening round, and the Central African Republic 59-52, but lost 52-60 to Senegal.
The Mozambican players face the same teams in Dakar in late June, needing only one victory to qualify for the second and final World Cup qualifying round.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers retained the leading spot in Africa and the 32nd position in the world. Senegal moved up one place to 35th in the world and became second in the continent, while Angola dropped to third position in Africa as they sunk from 33 to 37 in the ranking.
Egypt assumed fourth position, ranked the 50th in the world, followed by current African champions, Tunisian, who dropped six places to stay on 52nd.
Morocco are in sixth place in Africa, 63rd in the world, followed by Cameroon, 65th in the world, then Mali, 70th in the world, Cote D’ Ivoire, 72nd in the world, before Central African Republic in tenth place and 75th in the world.
USA occupy the summit of the ranking, followed by Spain, France Serbia, Argentina, Lituania, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece and Australia in that order.Source: A Bola / Ripples Nigeria
